Tōtara Hospice Conference Presentation in Dublin
Showing that Voluntary Assisted Dying can be provided within Palliative Care
In September, our Chief Executive Tina McCafferty was invited as one of the distinguished speakers at the World Federation of Right to Die Societies Conference in Dublin, Ireland. Tina shared how our Hospice came to the decision to support the right of the terminally ill to choose assisted dying as a legal option. She also discussed what we have learned from our extensive experience in the provision of an assisted death support service as part of our range of specialist palliative care services since the End of Life Choice Act 2019 came into force in November 2021. Tina consistently emphasized the importance of providing individuals with compassion, respect, autonomy and dignity throughout their palliative and end of life care.
We hope you enjoy her presentation and the valuable insights that Tina shares on behalf of our organisation.
We share our Hospice journey in the context of providing respectful and informed dialogue and to offer other organisations considering supporting patient choice for all legal choices at end of life a bit of a road map to consider.
